| 1837 | The management of passbook savings accounts is entrusted to Caisse des Dépôts. The number of Caisse d’Epargne banks grows from 284 in 1839 to 364 in 1847 |
| 1878 | Creation of the first Banque Populaire bank in Angers; The Banque Populaire banks were founded by individual entrepreneurs in order to finance their projects |
| 1919 | Creation of Crédit National in order to facilitate repair of damage caused during World War I |
| 1921 | Creation of Caisse Centrale des Banques Populaires (CCBP) |
| 1946 | Creation of Banque Française du Commerce Extérieur (BFCE) in order to finance international trade transactions |
| 1996 | Creation of Natexis S.A. out of the union of Crédit National and BFCE: the first all-French banking merger for almost 30 years |
| 1998 | CCBP buys Natexis S.A., which becomes Groupe Banque Populaire’s listed vehicle |
| 1999 | Natexis S.A. becomes Natexis Banques Populaires after CCBP’s transfer of businesses to Natexis S.A. CCBP becomes Banque Fédérale des Banques Populaires (BFBP) |

| 2001 | Spin-off of all Caisse des Dépôts’ non-public service financial activities to create CDC IXIS, corporate and investment bankings |
