Why have you chosen to support this cause in particular?

Agnès Guiral, Head of Sustainable Development, Natixis

[Angès Guiral]

« There are two major reasons why Natixis has supported the fight against malaria since 2005. The first reason is that, although we tend to forget it, malaria is a terrible disease that still claims close to one million victims each year, mostly women and children. The second one is that malaria is a plague that affects the economic growth of the countries impacted: losses in sub-Saharan countries are estimated at 12 billion dollars by the World Bank. So, in the end, it made sense considering our social and environmental responsibility policy, to support this cause and contribute to the development of those countries. »

Can we really do something against malaria?

[Angès Guiral]

« There are very efficient solutions to help combat malaria. But executing these solutions requires an integrated approach that encompasses raising awareness, prevention, treatment and vaccine research. That is why Natixis decided many years ago to support on-site projects, such as projects concerning the distribution of mosquito nets and raising awareness in the countries affected in partnership with Plan France in Burkina Faso, Cameroon or Togo. »

In your opinion, what is the future of the fight against malaria?

[Angès Guiral]

« Considerable progress has been made. In the last ten years, more than 1 million children’s lives were saved from malaria in Africa. At the level of the projects supported by Natixis, the lives of more than 100,000 women and children were saved. What we need to do now is to continue mobilizing the international community and businesses. Therefore, Natixis has decided to continue to support on-site projects, and research and awareness programs. This year again, we continued to mobilize our employees with our e-greeting card: each card sent electronically will generate a donation and we expect to provide an additional €30,000 to our programs. »
