Meeting with Didier Duverger Vice President and CEO of Natixis Coficiné
In what sectors does Natixis Coficiné operate?
Didier Duverger Vice President and CEO of Natixis Coficiné
« Since its inception more than 60 years ago, Natixis Coficiné has been entirely devoted to financing film and audiovisual production. Our mission is to advise our customers and offer financing solutions tailored to their projects: funding for production, development, distribution and cinema renovation, as well as for the acquisition of postproduction and filming material.
Our core business is, of course, financing film productions. But we also support television productions (dramas, documentaries, animation), technical industries, cinemas, theatres, music publishing, multimedia production and even video games. »
What role do you play in the French film industry?
« Each year we help more than a hundred films and about 15% of television productions in France and Europe. For example, we financed Heartbreaker, Of Gods and Men and Potiche. Currently, we’re financing the next Asterix, the next Jacques Audiard film, and also Would I Lie to You? 3.
In fact, Natixis Coficiné is a cross between a local bank and an investment bank.
It’s our job to offer tailored funding and pertinent advice to a specific, demanding clientele: the small world of European film and the French audiovisual sector, of which we are also a part. »
How do you see French film today?
« As you know, France is the country of the Lumière brothers and the birthplace of film. We have a unique model that combines subsidies, distribution and investment requirements and private funding. It enables talented individuals to express themselves. It’s thanks to this model and its role as a driving force that French film is doing so well today. »
