Meeting with Alain Gallois Head of Global Debt Platform Capital Markets
What are the Natixis Debt Platform’s objectives?
Alain Gallois Head of Global Debt Platform Capital Markets
« We work with the bank’s clients: companies, financial institutions, agencies and governments. Our first objective is to give them access to capital markets. Our second is innovation. We try to offer all our clients tailored solutions that address their specific issues and constraints. Our third role is to develop the bank’s balance sheet. By incorporating various teams into the Debt Platform, we try to optimize the use of our assets and ensure their diversification among market investors. »
What sets your approach apart?
« We take a client’s situation and try to turn it into a solution by being quicker than our competitors.
Another key element is taking full advantage of synergies between different products we offer in the Debt Platform by finding the product --or rather the solution -- best adapted to our clients’ constraints or needs.
Finally, the third point is that we try to take regulatory limitations into account. The Debt Platform has access to experts who specialize in issues that are important to our clients, such as the Basel III issue for banks, Solvency II for insurance companies, and the IFRS accounting issues. We try to have these specialists work with our sales teams so that they can offer solutions that take these future regulatory limitations into account. »
What is your take on the securitization market?
« We went down the wrong road in assuming that securitization was harmful. The truth is that only poorly structured securitization is harmful. So, we are trying to go back to basics and offer our issuing clients, as well as buyers and investors, securitizations of simple assets that are highly transparent as well as market pricing that corresponds both to what the issuers want and what investors expect. »
