Banque Populaire wins the 2014 Route du Rhum!

Loïck Peyron won the tenth edition of the Route du Rhum onboard the Maxi Trimaran Solo Banque Populaire VII. The skipper crossed the finish line at 5:11 (Paris time), breaking the competition record by a little more than two hours.

He is the winner of this legendary race after leading the race since the start at Saint-Malo. He traveled the 3,542 miles (6,375 km) in 7 days 15 hours 8 minutes and 32 seconds at an average speed of 19.34 knots.

In fact, he traveled 4,199 miles at 22.93 knots average speed. He is beating Lionel Lemonchois’ 2006 record (7 days 17 hours 19 minutes and 6 seconds) by 2 hours 10 minutes and 34 seconds.

Loïc Peyron, who will be 55 in a few weeks, participated in the Route du Rhum six times and never did better than fifth place !
